Frequently Asked Questions
The Importance of Scoping/Viewing Your Drains
Is it important to view your drain line with a scope/camera?
Viewing your drain line is a MUST. Without a proper visual image, the cleaning process is less effective (i.e leaving debris behind) it also may hinder the home owner and technician from finding any underlying issues with your drain lines. This could lead to re-recurring blockages.
Use our drain scoping service to help keep your drain lines clear, and reduce the likelihood of future clogs.
A Heroes Weapons: Snaking & Hydro Jetting
What is better, snaking/auguring or water jetting (hydro jet)?
When it comes to the battle between hydro jetting and snaking, there can be only one victor, right? Not necessarily! Both of these services are safe and efficient means to repair clogged drains in your home. They both have numerous advantages and benefits. But which is better?
*Each individual blockage is different in nature and should be assessed carefully to determine the best application to keep your drains flowing freely.
Let’s break it down further:
The Difference: Hydro Jet vs. Snaking
Snaking is most effective with simple clogs that have not yet hardened against the pipe wall. This makes snaking the preferred method for quickly and safely getting rid of emergency clogged drains.
Hydro jetting is better for more stubborn clogs or blockages that are recurring since it’s more effective at permanently removing the issue.
How Does Each Super Hero Tool Work?
How does drain auguring/snaking work?
The process of auguring a drain is simple and efficient. The process involves inserting a cable with an auger-like attachment on the end. The technician feeds the cable into the drain until they feel resistance – this is the clog. Once the clog is located, the technician turns a crank on their end to rotate the auger-like blades inside the drain. This chews up the clog and allows smaller chunks to either pass through the system or get pulled out of the drain when the cable is removed.
How does hydro jetting work?
Using a high-pressure water jet, our technicians can blast through years of hardened debris in your pipes. Hydro jetting is safe and effective in removing stubborn clogs that regular snaking can’t handle. Hydro jetting also works to smooth any rough spots in the pipe, which prevents future clogs from forming.

Why do Drain Blockages Occur?
There are a variety of reason why you may be experience drain blockages. Could you be held hostage by one of the following culprits?
- Broken, cracked or collapsed pipe – Damaged pipes requiring repair or replacement.
- Offset pipe – Sewer pipes have become misaligned due to shifting of soil, frozen ground, settling, etc.
- Blockage – Grease buildup or a foreign object is restricting or prohibiting proper flow and/or cleaning of the line.
- Corrosion – The pipe has deteriorated and/or broken, causing collapses in the line and restricting flow.
- Bellied pipe – A section of the pipe has sunk due to ground or soil conditions, creating a valley that collects paper and waste.
- Leaking joints – The seals between pipes have broken, allowing water to escape into the area surrounding the pipe.
- Root infiltration – Tree or shrub roots have invaded the sewer line, preventing normal cleaning and/or have damaged the line.
- Off-grade pipe – Existing pipes are constructed of substandard material that may have deteriorated or corroded.
Does a Preventative Maintenance Plan Suit my Needs?
Commercial facilities and drain lines with excessive use often fall under the criteria for scheduled preventative maintenance programs.
Down time due to emergency back ups is not only an inconvenience it is also more cost effective to enrol in a maintenance plan.
These programs can be set up on a monthly, quarterly, semi annually and annual basis.
In some cases, the cost of cleaning problematic lines with structural issues as opposed to replacing may be the most cost-effective solution.
What do I do in the Event of an Emergency Backup/Clog?
Many times drain issues arise with no notice, leaving most people in a panicked state.
Here are a few simple tips to put your mind at ease.
1) Limit Water to the Drain Line Affected.
If your kitchen sink is clogged avoid any excessive water as the clog will not drain and may cause additional issues (i.e leaking, flooding).
If your noticing excessive water/sewage coming out of basement drains and or lower level fixtures odds are you have a sewer back up.
In this event any water you use in your residence or commercial unit is likely to continue to back up until the main line block is dealt with.
2) Avoid use of Chemicals to Clear Blockage
Chemicals are not meant to be introduced to our drain system they are not only very corrosive but may do more harm than good with any piping material.
In many cases these chemicals can melt thru piping or cause pre mature corrosion to lines.
Going chemical free will also help the technician coming to service your drainage needs.
Refusing to use chemical drain cleaners not only makes for a safer work environment, these chemicals may also damage the equipment used to clear your blockage (don’t hurt my Spartan!).
3) DON’T PANIC!
Every drain situation has a solution! As quick as these drain problems arise they can also be dealt with.
